Sarah Polley, the director of the new documentary Stories We Tell, tells Terry Gross about including footage of retakes in the film:

I think that, for me, it was really important to not leave the construction of the film out because it’s a film about storytelling and how we tell stories and why we tell stories. I thought it was really important to include the process of making this film itself in the film and some of that involves some rather unflattering and ruthless moments for me like directing my dad when he’s … pouring his heart out, basically. And, you know, you do get into this mode, I think, when you’re telling a story — or certainly when you’re making a film — where you can kind of lose your sense or your barometer for what’s human or humane and certainly I think there are a few moments in the film where I’m directing my dad where I don’t come off that well, but I certainly come off as somebody who’s trying to tell a story above all else.

Saturday, April 20th, 2 pm-5 pm (Performances at 3 pm)

Intermedia Arts is proud to introduce Amplified Visions: Images by Youth. This multi-disciplinary exhibition features fresh new artwork by Twin Cities area youth spanning ages from 11 to 19. These out-loud young artists use photography, film & video, painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, and poetry to raise the volume on their visions of the world.

Come witness amazing artwork and live performances by local young artists (ages 11 - 19) in Intermedia Arts’ second Youth Art Exhibit! Food, Fun & Festivities—and it’s FREE!

The exhibit will open April 18th and will be on display to the public in the Intermedia Arts gallery throughout the middle of June 2013. Exhibit curated by the Youth Leadership Council and Intermedia Arts Youth Programs Staff.

As Bain’s founder, he established its business model, which is to wring the maximum efficiency from a company for the benefit of Bain’s investors, even if that means closing plants, shipping jobs to China, and laying off American workers. That’s how private equity often works, and Bain has done it many times before, sometimes to the benefit of a company’s workers, and sometimes to their detriment. When Bain first led a buyout of Sensata, in fact, it laid off hundreds of American workers and sent their jobs offshore. As the Times reported, the Labor Department spent $780,000 retraining some of the laid-off employees.”
